Selby Acupuncture is a group of practitioners dedicated to the treatment of reproductive health, fertility, and pregnancy. Several of our associates are fellows of the American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine (ABORM), an evidence-based organization dedicated to the treatment of reproductive disorders with Chinese medicine. All of our providers are highly experienced in working with fertility, pre-, peri- and post-natal conditions. We work with local family practices and reproductive endocrinology clinics to help ensure the success of our patients. Our approach is multi-faceted, using acupuncture, dietary recommendations, and herbal medicine where appropriate.
What can Chinese medicine help?
The heart of our fertility wellness program is based upon looking at the body as a whole. We will help identify imbalances in the body which may be contributing to infertility, and then, by using acupuncture and herbal medicine, along with education about diet and lifestyle, help to correct these imbalances and optimize fertility overall, increasing chances of conception.
Treatments we often use include:
- Herbal medicine
- Dietary therapy
- Lifestyle modifications
- Basal Body Temperature monitoring and education: understanding the menstrual cycle and what information it can give to us
Conditions we see in our clinic:
- Unexplained infertility
- Diminished Ovarian Reserve (DOR)
- PCOS and ovulatory dysfunction
- Male infertility – low motility, morphology, and count
Why acupuncture for fertility support?
There has been a lot of research into how acupuncture can improve fertility in both women and men. It is believed that acupuncture can help balance the reproductive hormones and limit the interference from stress hormones, promoting fertility. It has also been shown to increase blood flow to the reproductive organs, promoting follicle production and endometrial health. For those undergoing IVF, it can help reduce the unwanted side effects of medications while enhancing the effectiveness of IVF. Male fertility can also be effectively treated with acupuncture and herbal medicine, increasing the sperm counts on all levels. It is well documented that a few strategically placed needles can have a remarkable effect on reproductive outcomes.
How many treatments are needed?
As a general guideline, we work with someone for 1-2 treatments per week for three menstrual cycles.
The amount of acupuncture needed will vary depending on any underlying diagnosis, if you are trying naturally, using a medicated cycle, or planning on using ART (IVF or IUI). Call for a free 15 minute consultation to find what treatment course would be best for you.
